About me

Hi! I'm John Hand and I'm a partner and head of the motorsports group at Level. I'm also on the Board of the Manchester Football Association (but a Middlesbrough fan, so please don’t ask about Man City) and chair of the Manchester FA Regulatory Strategy Group.

 

The Motorsport Lawyer exists because other sports have loads of legal commentary (eg football and rugby) but motorsports is lacking. The feedback I had on motorsport legal topics is that the articles are: (a) too detailed; (b) wrong; or (c) caveated by "I'm not a lawyer but..." (so is like getting plumbing advice from me).

 

So, having worked as a senior lawyer in an F1 team for 4.5 years that included things like negotiating Concorde and advising on protests and appeals, I thought I’d explain what actually happens. 

 

If you work in motorsports and you need (or don’t even know if you need) a lawyer on any topic then let me know. I’m sure we can learn something from each other.

 

And, while I am a lawyer, please don’t rely on any of this stuff before speaking to me first.
