About me

Hi! I'm John Hand and I'm Head of Legal at Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Advanced Technologies. I was previously a partner and head of the motorsports group at Level and a senior lawyer at Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. I've been a motorsport specialist lawyer since 2019.

 

I'm also on the Board of the Manchester Football Association (but a Middlesbrough fan, so please don’t ask about Man City) and chair of the Manchester FA Regulatory Strategy Group.

 

The Motorsport Lawyer exists because other sports have loads of legal commentary (eg football and rugby) but motorsports is lacking. The feedback I had on motorsport legal topics is that the articles are: (a) too detailed; (b) wrong; or (c) caveated by "I'm not a lawyer but..." (so is like getting plumbing advice from me).
